Developing a social media communications strategy

10 Feb

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who attended my workshop at Melcrum’s Social Media Conference (#MelcrumSMC) yesterday. I really enjoyed sharing social communication thoughts as well as hearing about some of the successes and issues you’re experiencing with developing your social media approach at work.

As promised, I wanted to share the slides I used as quickly as possible. As mentioned, I’d be very happy to continue any conversations on here, twitter, linked in – or of course over the phone or in person. Don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I’ll continue to share thoughts as I tweet and blog my way through today’s conference presentations. So, back soon…

Melcrum Social Media Conference is finally here

Melcrum Social Media Conference – Ismayeel Syed interview

27 Jan
With just two weeks to go, here’s the final ipadio interview I’ve done with all the speakers for Melcrum’s Social Media Conference. The interviews include; James Bennett, Melcrum’s Head of Content, on the benefits of attending the conference; Euan Semple, our keynote speaker for the event; Pete Stevenson, Creative Director at The Edge, on employee generated videos; Lee Bryant, Co-founder of Headshift, on integrating social media into intranet communications; Louise McGregor from ING Group on introducing social media guidelines; Helen Farrar from Virgin Media on using social media to give employees a voice and, yesterday, Geoff Timblick from Vodafone on using a variety of social media platforms to get people talking.
Today, I spoke to Ish Syed who’s a Senior Technical Authority from Aviva World. Ish talks about how they’ve taken social media to a whole new level by using audio and video broadcasts as well as employee generated content. During the interview, as well as sharing advice on producing a detailed business case, he gives some useful tips and tricks when asking employees to get involved in producing their own content.
Once again, we had some great questions coming in from Twitter, which Ish answers during the interview. A big thanks to @GLABChung and @oddsocks07 for sending them in.

Geoff talks about the variety of social media platforms they’ve developed at Vodafone to get their people talking. And he gives an insight into some of the valuable tips and tricks he’ll be sharing with all delegates attending the conference. I love Geoff’s reference to the Field of Dreams quote absolutely not applying “build it and they [he] will come” but it being more like “don’t build it and they’ll do it anyway”!
We had some great questions coming in from Twitter and LinkedIn, which Geoff answers during the interview. A big thanks to @mike737373, @Lkmcn1, @panchilanzas and Victoria on LinkedIn for sending them in.

Tomorrow afternoon, I’ll be interviewing Ishmayeel Syed from Aviva Group on how they’re using video at Aviva.

Melcrum Social Media Conference – Speaker Interviews

12 Jan

There are just four weeks to go to Melcrum’s Social Media Conference, (#MelcrumSMC) and I’ll be doing a series of interviews with all speakers and workshop leaders.

I’m working with Melcrum and ipadio to publish these audio interviews. ipadio is a technology which is revolutionising the way companies broadcast to their people. It enables live streaming from any phone, anywhere in the world, direct to the internet – whether that’s your corporate intranet, your website, or your social networks.

So, what better than to use one of the many social media tools to share and talk about the conference. Along with the ipadio interviews, I’ll be tweeting, blogging and boo’ing – and Melcrum have set up a twitter hashtag – just follow #MelcrumSMC for all the latest news.

First up is James Bennett, Melcrum’s Head of Content, who’s been heavily involved in setting up the conference.

In this interview, James talks about the excellent response Melcrum’s had to the conference, the fantastic speaker line up and some key points about why people would want to attend.

Later today, I’ll be interviewing Euan Semple – the event’s keynote speaker.

As many of you know, Euan’s been at the forefront of social communication and technology over the past ten or so years and is seen as a leading communications consultant in helping organisations get the most out of this wired-up world
